UNIDO Strengthens Evidence-Based Industrial Development Through Use of the QIS4D Index
As part of its commitment to strengthening quality infrastructure systems and promoting evidence-based industrial development, the European Union-funded TIGARA project is promoting the use of the UNIDO Quality Infrastructure for Sustainable Development (QIS4D) Index (https://hub.unido.org/qi4sd/?year=2024) as a core tool for project planning and implementation. The Index enables partner countries to assess the performance of their national Quality Infrastructure (QI) systems, identify gaps, and guide targeted reforms that enhance industrial competitiveness and support sustainable development outcomes.
Building on these efforts, TIGARA organized a dedicated training session for Egyptian counterparts on 25 November. The event brought together stakeholders from the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, the Egyptian Organization for Standardization (EOS), GOEIC, and research and data institutions. This capacity-building session aimed at deepening national understanding of the Index and demonstrate how its use can directly inform strategic decisions that strengthen Egypt’s industrial and QI landscape.
The QIS4D Index provides a comprehensive, globally comparable measure of how countries perform across core dimensions of Quality Infrastructure, including standards development, metrology, accreditation, and conformity assessment. By integrating this tool into project implementation, TIGARA ensures that interventions are data-driven, responsive to national priorities, and aligned with international best practices.
The workshop introduced participants to the methodology and structure of the QIS4D Index, exploreed Egypt’s performance trends, and presented how results can inform evidence-based policymaking.
By investing in national capacity to understand and use these metrics, TIGARA is helping Egypt build a more robust, data-driven foundation for industrial modernization, mirroring successful approaches already demonstrated across UNIDO-supported initiatives.
