Quality, standards and innovation to power Viet Nam's agricultural exports
Ho Chi Minh City, 10 June 2026 – Through Export Forum 2026, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) brought together more than 150 stakeholders from government, industry and research to build a shared agenda for strengthening Viet Nam's agricultural export system. Discussions highlighted the need to shift the basis of competition from low costs alone to quality, innovation, traceability and compliance with international standards, helping Vietnamese agricultural products remain competitive in evolving global markets.
The Export Forum 2026: “Strengthening Competitive and Market-Oriented Agricultural Export Systems” was jointly organized by UNIDO, the Viet Nam Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology (VIAEP) and Minh Vi Exhibition and Advertisement Services Co., Ltd (VEAS) under the Global Quality and Standards Programme in Viet Nam (GQSP Viet Nam), funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
The Forum highlighted the role of post-harvest management, cold chain systems, quality infrastructure and innovation in enabling agricultural products to meet evolving market requirements. As global consumers and buyers place greater emphasis on transparency, sustainability and product quality, strengthening these areas will be essential for maintaining and expanding market access.
“Export success today is no longer determined by an individual product, but by the ability of the entire value chain to create value, ensure quality, improve efficiency and meet evolving market requirements. Sustainable competitiveness is built on quality, innovation and a strong national quality infrastructure," said Ms Hoang Mai Van Anh, National Coordinator of GQSP Viet Nam at UNIDO.
Technical presentations explored practical approaches to strengthening the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products through market analysis, traceability, compliance with technical requirements and quality management systems, enabling businesses to better meet evolving market demands.
A panel discussion entitled Competing Beyond Borders: Building Resilient Agricultural Export Value Chains highlighted the importance of stronger collaboration across the value chain, improved logistics and greater compliance with international market requirements to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of Viet Nam's agricultural exports.
The Forum concluded that closer cooperation among value chain actors, combined with continued investment in quality infrastructure, innovation and standards, is critical to building a more competitive, resilient and market-oriented agricultural export system. Through GQSP Viet Nam, UNIDO supports national partners in strengthening quality infrastructure and promoting sustainable agricultural exports that meet international market requirements.
