Empowering Armenian Industries through Internationally Trusted Calibration Services
Yerevan, Armenia - Industries across Armenia can now access internationally recognized calibration services locally at the National Body for Standards and Metrology (NBSM) across three measurement fields - Electrical, Torque, and Pressure - covering 18 internationally recognized measurement services, following accreditation by an international accreditation body. These services support enterprises across key sectors, including energy, telecommunications, healthcare, aerospace, and manufacturing by strengthening business performance, facilitating compliance with international standards and enhancing the capacity of Armenian enterprises to access international markets - eliminating the need to seek such services abroad.
The availability of these services was made possible with UNIDO’s comprehensive capacity development support to four NBSM calibration laboratories. This included the provision of equipment based on identified needs, as well as tailored technical capacity-building services. As a result, NBSM has strengthened its technical competence, ensured measurement traceability, and established a robust quality management system in line with relevant international standards. This milestone represents a significant step in modernizing Armenia’s metrology infrastructure and reinforcing its alignment with international standards.
The success of this project reflects strong collaboration between the Government of Armenia, the European Union and UNIDO, highlighting their shared commitment to building a sustainable and internationally recognized metrology system through the project “Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia”.
The “Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia” project, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNIDO, aims to enhance NBSM’s capacity to deliver sustainable, internationally recognized metrology services. By reinforcing Armenia’s legal, institutional, and technical frameworks in metrology, the initiative contributes to improved trade competitiveness and export diversification, in line with the objectives of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
